Croatian mezzosoprano Irena Parlov was born in Sarajevo,Bosnia and Herzegovina.She finished her music and vocal studies at the Croatian Music Academy in Split with prof. Cynthia Hansell- Bakić . After graduation she finished her master’s degree in vocal performance at the Croatian music academy in Zagreb.
Right after her studies she made her debut as Suora Infermiera in Puccini’s Suor Angelica at the Croatian National theatre in Split,under the baton of Mo. Ivan Repušić
Among her professional experiance and recent engagements are: Carmen (Carmen) season 2015,’16, ’17,’18,’19 at the Slovenian national opera and ballet Ljubljana, Auditorio de Zaragoza, (Spain) and Croatian national theatre in Split, Il Trovatore (Azucena) at the Slovenian national theater in Maribor (2017), Croatian national theatre in Osijek (2018), Croatian national theater in Split 2019, Madama Butterfly (Suzuki) at the Slovenian national theatre in Ljubljana,season 2017/2018,2019. Rigoletto (Maddalena) 2019.,Katja Kabanova (Varvara) season 2016, 2017,2018 at the Slovenian national opera and ballet Ljubljana and in Opera de Rennes ; Otello (Emilia) at the Slovenian national opera and ballet Ljubljana 2015/2016, Norma (Adalgisa) 2012/2013 at the Croatian national theatre in Osijek, Die Fledermaus (Prince Orlofsky) 2012 at the Croatian national theatre in Split, The bartered bride (Esmeralda) ,A midsummer night’s dream (Hermia) at the National opera in Brno (Czech Republic) 2013 , Maria di Rohan (Armando di Gondi) at the National opera in Brno (Czech Republic) 2014, Cavaleria Rusticana (Mamma Lucia) at the Croatian national theatre in Split 2013, Ero the Joker Croatian national opera (Doma) at the Croatian National theatre in Osijek and the Croatian national theatre in Split 2013/2014,
In the season 2018-2019 Irena Parlov made her debut as Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Slovenian national opera and ballet Ljubljana where she will also sing the role of Carmen fifth season in the row . She also appeared as Carmen in her third production of this opera premiered by Croatian national theater in Osijek in November 2018. At the Croatian National theater in Split she appeared in the role of Azucena. In March 27, Irena Parlov will make her debut as Klotilde in the Croatian opera Porin written by famous Croatian composer Vatroslav Lisinski.
The season 2019/2020 will began with the role debut of Ulrica from Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera at Narodni divadlo Moravsko-slezske in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in November she will make her debut as Dalila in Samson and Dalila .
She collaborated with renowed conductors such as: Mo. Ivan Repusic,Mo.Ondrej Olos, Mo. Jaroslav Kyzlink,Mo. Loris Voltolini. Mo. Jakub Klecker etc. And Stage directors,such as: Frank Van Laecke,Manfred Schweigkofler, Pamela Howard, Dejan Miladinović,Krešimir Dolenčić etc.
Apart from her academic education ,she was perfecting her singing with renowed singers and professors of singing such as: Montserrat Caballe, Ire Siff, Michele Crider,Ruža Pospiš-Baldani,.Gerhard Zeller etc. She is currently perfecting her singing under the guidance of a famous slovakian professor Eva Blahova.
Irena Parlov is also a regular concert performer. Among her recent concert performances are: Opening of Ljubljana festival, summer 2018 with Slovenian philharmonic under the baton of Mo. Josep Vicent and in coproduction with famous La Fura dels Baus with Prokofiev’s cantata ”Alexander Nevski” ; Beethowen’s 9th simphony at the National theater in Sarajevo,Bosnia and herzegovina under the button of Mo.Toshio Yamagisawa, Mozart’s Requiem with Croatian national theater in Osijek with Mo. Filip Pavišić, Mozart’s Requiem at the Spring festival in Mostar-Bosnia and Herzegovina, concert performance of the opera Didona and Enej at the festival of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, concert performance of Mascagni’s Cavaleria Rusticana (Mamma Lucia) at the Croatian national theater in Split with Mo. Loris Voltolini,J.S.Bach Magnificat at the music Festival Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Solo concert at the Festival ”Sarajevo winter” in Bosnia and Herzegovina,full evening and gala concerts in Croatia at the Croatian national theatre in Split ,Slovakia (concert of young opera talents in Bratislava) , concert at the University of Music and Peforming Arts in Vienna etc.
